What's wrong?

On 2017-2023 Nova Bus Lfs and Lfs Artic transit buses, the fuse holder is part of the electrical protection system for the radiator fan circuit. The fuse holder keeps the fuse fixed in place while the 24-volt power cable feeds power to that circuit. When current gets too high, the fuse is supposed to protect the wiring instead of letting heat build.

On the affected buses, the 250 amp fuse holder is mounted vertically on certain diesel and CNG models. Conductive road debris can collect between the power cable lug and the grounded mounting fastener that secures the holder. That debris gives electricity a path it should not have, so the cable and fastener can short circuit and overheat.

The warning sign is visible during pre-trip inspection or scheduled preventive maintenance. Look at the plastic cap on the fuse holder for heat damage, which points to overheating already developing at that connection.

Who's affected?

Spans the Lfs and Lfs Artic across 7 model years, all tied to the same fuse holder in the wiring system.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.

What's the safety risk?

An electrical short circuit can overheat the fuse holder and increase the risk of a fire while the bus is driving or parked. If your VIN is included, schedule the repair soon and have maintenance staff check the fuse holder plastic cap for heat damage during inspections. Repair is free at any franchised Nova Bus dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2023 Nova Bus Lfs or Lfs Artic is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Nova Bus dealer to schedule the free fuse-holder and cable-lug inspection and cleaning that addresses the short-circuit fire risk.
  3. Bring the owner letter if you have it. If not, reference recall number 23V607 when you call.
  4. Call Nova Bus customer service at 1-800-350-6682 with questions and reference Nova Bus recall CR5445.
  5. Limit use until the repair is complete because the short circuit creates a fire risk while driving or parked.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Nova Bus technician inspects the fuse holder and cable lugs, removes the affected parts as needed, and cleans the holder and lugs so the power cable connection is secured correctly. Parts and labor are free under the recall. Buses already repaired under recall 22V-416 still need this newer remedy completed. If you already paid out of pocket for this repair before the owner letter, ask Nova Bus or the service desk how to submit documentation under the manufacturer's standard reimbursement plan.
