What's wrong?
The ISG electric oil pump assembly on affected Kia Sportage, Seltos, and Soul vehicles helps move transmission fluid when the Idle Stop & Go system shuts the engine off at a stop. That fluid keeps the transmission lubricated and ready to re-engage when the engine restarts. An electronic controller inside the pump tells the pump when to run.
In this recall, the controller contains a damaged capacitor. A capacitor is a small electrical part that stores and releases charge inside the controller. When it is damaged, it can short circuit and make the pump assembly overheat.
Owners can see several warning signs before the problem becomes severe. The electric power steering, Electronic Stability Control, Smart Cruise Control, Auto Hold, Forward Collision Avoidance, or Lane Keeping Assist warning lamps can come on. The Idle Stop & Go system can stop working, the vehicle can enter limp home mode, the engine can stay running when the driver tries to turn it off, or smoke can come from the engine compartment.

What happens at the repair
Until the repair is complete, park outside and away from structures. At the dealer, a Kia technician inspects the electric oil pump controller and replaces it if needed. The inspection, replacement parts, and labor are free under the recall. If you paid out of pocket for this repair before the recall notice, Kia's standard reimbursement plan covers documented repair expenses already incurred. Bring receipts or repair paperwork to the service desk.
