Recall 23V492 affects 147 2022 Kidron Refrigerated Trailer trailers for Tire Pilot Plus pressure loss above 45 mph. Free controller repair once Kidron opens it.

Kidron is recalling 147 2022 Refrigerated Trailer vehicles equipped with Tire Pilot Plus tire pressure regulation systems because all 8 tires can lose pressure while traveling faster than 45 mph. What's wrong?

The Tire Pilot Plus system on the 2022 Kidron Refrigerated Trailer is a tire pressure regulation system. It uses an electronic control unit and air supply hoses to help keep the trailer tires at the set pressure while the trailer is in service.

On affected trailers, the system can allow all 8 tires to lose pressure while the trailer is traveling faster than 45 mph. The cause has not been identified. The interim repair disconnects the air supply hoses at the tires and at the control unit, which takes the faulty pressure regulation system out of the air path.

The system is designed to turn on a warning light when tire pressure drops below 80 PSI. On affected trailers, that warning light can work intermittently, so the driver is not guaranteed a steady warning before tire pressure drops.

Field incidentsNHTSA has logged 19 field incidents to date.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific trailer.

What's the safety risk?

Tire pressure loss while driving can reduce trailer stability and control, and tire tread separation increases crash risk. The warning light is intended to alert the driver when pressure drops below 80 PSI, but that light is intermittent on affected units. Check tire pressure before driving and schedule the recall work. Repair will be free at any franchised Kidron dealer once Kidron opens it.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2022 Kidron Refrigerated Trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Wait for Kidron's final repair instructions before scheduling the Tire Pilot Plus controller replacement and reactivation.
  3. Call Kidron customer service at 1-252-946-6521 with questions and reference recall number 23V492 when you call.
  4. Avoid driving faster than 45 mph until the interim guidance changes or the free repair is complete.
  5. Bring the owner letter if you received one when the final repair opens.

What happens at the repair

Until the final repair opens, follow Kidron's interim direction to keep the Tire Pilot Plus tire pressure regulation system disabled. Once the final dealer repair is available, a Kidron technician will work with the equipment manufacturer to replace the Tire Pilot Plus system controller and reactivate the system. The controller replacement and reactivation are free under the recall. Owner letters were mailed February 22, 2024, so give the dealer campaign 23V492 when you call and ask whether the trailer needs to stay out of operation until the controller work is complete.
