What's wrong?
The driveline on 2019-2023 Nova Bus Lfs and Lfs Artic transit buses transfers power from the Allison B400R or B500R transmission to the drive axle. The transmission output yoke, also called the flange, is the connection point that lets the driveshaft turn with the transmission output shaft. Its retaining bolt has to keep that connection tight while the bus accelerates, slows, and carries normal road vibration.
On affected buses, that yoke connection can lose clamping force. Nova Bus found bolts with reduced torque during field checks, and the exact root cause was still under analysis with Allison Transmission. If the yoke separates, the driveshaft can separate from the transmission and the bus can suddenly lose drive power.
There is no warning sign before failure. An operator should not count on noise, vibration, or a dashboard message to appear before the driveshaft connection comes apart.
Who's affected?
Covers both Lfs and Lfs Artic buses across the 2019-2023 model years, all tied to the driveline.

What's the safety risk?
Sudden loss of drive power raises the risk of a crash. If the bus becomes disabled in traffic, passengers face added injury risk during an evacuation in an uncontrolled traffic situation. There is no warning sign before failure, so operators should schedule the recall inspection promptly. Repair will be free at any franchised Nova Bus dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2019-2023 Nova Bus Lfs or Lfs Artic is included in this recall.
- Wait for Nova Bus's remedy notice before scheduling if the VIN check shows the dealer repair is not open for your bus.
- Call Nova Bus customer service at 1-800-350-6682 with questions and reference recall number 23V482 (Nova Bus recall CR5442).
- Schedule the free output-yoke-bolt inspection once the remedy is open, so loose bolts can be tightened before the transmission yoke separates and the bus loses drive power.
- Keep the bus out of passenger service until Nova Bus or the dealer confirms the repair path for your VIN.
What happens at the repair
Nova Bus has described the dealer repair but the final remedy is not marked available yet. Once it opens, a Nova Bus technician will inspect the output yoke bolts and tighten any loose bolts covered by the recall. The final dealer repair will be free once available. Nova Bus uses its standard reimbursement plan for owners who already paid for a related repair. Keep repair paperwork and contact Nova Bus customer service to ask how to submit documentation under that plan.
