What's wrong?
The strobe light on 2021-2023 Altec Aerial Device, Digger Derrick, Effer Crane, and Service Body units is a warning light mounted on the body of the equipment. Its job is to flash so workers and nearby traffic can see the unit during roadside, utility, or job-site work. The light has an electrical circuit inside the lens and housing.
On affected units, water can leak into that strobe light housing. Moisture inside the lens can reach the electrical parts and create a short circuit. Altec found electrical arc marks and moisture in returned lights after thermal events near the strobe light, with damage to the unit body and nearby components.
Before a light failure, a pre-operational inspection can reveal moisture inside the light housing. There is no warning sign that the light circuit has incorrect circuit protection before a short occurs.

What's the safety risk?
An electrical short circuit in the light assembly can increase the risk of a fire. During pre-operational inspection, look for moisture in the light housing and treat an inoperative light as a service issue. There is no warning sign for incorrect circuit protection. Repair is free at any franchised Altec dealer.
What should I do?

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Altec technician inspects the strobe light assembly for moisture and installs a new fuse. If the light shows moisture or does not work, the technician installs a light replacement kit. The recall repair is available now, and parts and labor are free. If you already paid for a repair tied to this strobe light electrical short before the owner letter, Altec's warranty policy covers reimbursement for that cost. Bring repair paperwork and proof of payment to the service desk.
