What's wrong?
The winch on 2021-2023 Crysteel Dump Body vehicles is a WARN VR EVO 8 unit controlled by a handheld remote. The remote lets an operator run the winch from outside the cab, either wirelessly or with the cord plugged into the winch. In normal use, the circuit board inside the remote reads the button input and sends the command to start, stop, or change winch direction.
On affected vehicles, water can get inside the wireless handheld remote. Water and corrosion on specific points of the circuit board can create an electrical path that was never commanded by the operator. That can make the winch start by itself, or keep running after the switch button is released.
There is no warning sign before failure. A wet remote, visible corrosion, or a winch that does not stop when the button is released means the remote is no longer behaving normally.
Who's affected?
Covers the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Dump Body, with the VR EVO 8 winch tied to both winch equipment and electrical system components.

What's the safety risk?
If the winch remote has corrosion or water intrusion, the winch can run without an intended command and injure someone near the equipment. Keep people clear of the winch, remove the remote battery pack as instructed, and stop using the remote if corrosion or water is present. Repair is free at any franchised Crysteel dealer.

What happens at the repair
Crysteel and Warn provide inspection instructions for the wireless winch remote. A Crysteel technician or Warn customer service can guide removal of the remote battery pack, inspection for corrosion or water intrusion, and disabling of the wireless function. If corrosion, water intrusion, unexpected winch operation, or water exposure is found, stop using the remote and contact Warn customer service for a free replacement remote. Warn also makes the replacement water resistant remote available free of charge. To claim the campaign compensation listed in the reimbursement plan, Warn provides a $100 coupon for the loss of wireless function.

What should I do if my 2021-2023 Crysteel Dump Body is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 23V284. If it is, follow Crysteel and Warn inspection instructions for the handheld winch remote, remove the battery pack to disable wireless operation, and contact Crysteel or WARN if corrosion or water intrusion is found.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the recall remedy at no cost to the owner. Crysteel and Warn will provide inspection instructions, a replacement remote if corrosion or water intrusion is found, and a replacement water resistant remote free of charge.
