What's wrong?
The WARN VR EVO 12-S winch on affected 2019-2022 Field Van Sprinter builds is an electric pulling device mounted to help recover or move the vehicle when it is stuck. Its handheld remote sends the operator's command to the winch so the motor starts, stops, winds cable in, or pays cable out only when commanded.
The problem is inside the wireless handheld remote. Water entering the remote corrodes specific areas of the circuit board, the small electronic plate that carries switch signals. That corrosion can create an unintended signal, so the winch starts running when nobody pressed the button, or keeps running after the switch is released.
The warning sign is the winch motor running when the driver or winch operator did not command it. If you hear that, treat the winch control as active and stop using the wireless remote. Removing the remote battery disables wireless control, and unplugging the remote when it is not in use eliminates the unintended operation path described in campaign 23V267.

What's the safety risk?
An unintended winch operation increases the risk of injury because the winch can move while people are near it. If you hear the winch motor running without a command, keep hands and bystanders clear and stop using the wireless remote until it is inspected. Repair is free at any franchised Field Van dealer.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 23V267?
Recall 23V267 covers 20 2019-2022 Field Van Sprinter vehicles equipped with a Warn winch and wireless handheld remote. Water can enter the remote, corrode the circuit board, and allow the winch to operate unintentionally, increasing injury risk.
What should I do if my 2019-2022 Field Van Sprinter is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific van is included in recall 23V267. If it is, inspect the winch remote for corrosion or water intrusion, remove the remote battery pack to disable wireless operation, and contact Field Van customer service at 1-559-233-8267 for repair instructions.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair recall defects at no cost, and Field Van's remedy provides inspection instructions plus a replacement remote from WARN free of charge when corrosion or water intrusion is found.
What is the safety risk?
