What's wrong?

The Bendix Intellipark PVM on 2022-2024 Nikola Tre BEV trucks is the towing park brake module for the air brake system. When the driver pulls the park switch, the module is supposed to exhaust air from the spring brake system so the parking brakes apply and hold the truck in park.

In affected trucks, internal mechanical parts in the PVM sit at the upper edge of the design specification. Combined tolerances create too much air leakage inside the module. When the pilot solenoid turns on, pressure does not build the way it should, so the valve module does not move into the park position after the parking brake is activated.

The driver has warning signs at the switch and by sound. The park indication LEDs stay off after the park switch is pulled, and the usual air exhaust sound is absent. Those signs mean the spring brake system has not exhausted and the truck is not parked.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the parking brake does not engage after the driver releases the brakes, the Tre BEV can roll away and increase the risk of a crash. Watch for park switch LEDs staying off or no air exhaust sound after the switch is pulled. If either sign appears, keep the brake applied and call Nikola service before moving the vehicle. Repair is free at any franchised Nikola dealer.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Nikola technician replaces the electronic parking brake valve module, called the PVM in the recall filing. The replacement parts and labor are free under the recall. This repair addresses the module that controls whether the parking brake moves into the park position when activated. For a paid, related repair completed before the recall notice, contact Nikola customer service and ask about reimbursement under Nikola's general reimbursement plan on file. Keep any repair invoice, payment record, and service paperwork together for that discussion.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 23V249?

Recall 23V249 covers 364 2022-2024 Nikola Tre BEV trucks with an electronic parking brake valve module that can fail to move into park when the parking brake is activated. If the brake does not engage after the driver releases the service brakes, the truck can roll away and increase crash risk. Nikola dealers replace the module for free.

What should I do if my 2022-2024 Nikola Tre BEV is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 23V249. If it is, contact a franchised Nikola dealer to schedule replacement of the electronic parking brake valve module. Reference recall number 23V249 or Nikola recall number 23VDC0301 when you call. The repair is free.

Does the recall repair cost anything?

No. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair recall defects at no cost. Nikola dealers will replace the electronic parking brake valve module free of charge, including parts and labor, at a franchised Nikola dealer.

Is it safe to drive my Nikola Tre BEV before the repair?

The recall does not include a do-not-drive instruction. The risk is that the parking brake does not engage as expected after the driver releases the service brakes, which can let the truck roll away. Until the repair is complete, confirm the vehicle is secured before leaving the driver's seat.
