Land Rover is recalling 2,881 2019-2022 Range Rover Sport PHEV and Range Rover PHEV vehicles because water pump pulley drive belt damage can let the engine overheat. If coolant leaks onto the turbocharger heat shield inside the engine compartment, fire risk increases, and Land Rover dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The water pump pulley drive belt on 2019-2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV and Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles helps run the engine cooling system. That system moves coolant through the engine, then through outlet pipes and hoses, so heat leaves the engine instead of building up around hot parts.
On these PHEV SUVs, the belt can become damaged or detach. When that happens, the engine overheats. Heat and pressure then can rupture the engine coolant elbow pipe, also called the water outlet tube. Coolant can leak from that broken pipe onto the turbocharger heat shield, a very hot area near the engine.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem starts inside the cooling system, so the driver is not given a reliable early symptom before the belt damage leads to overheating.
Who's affected?
Covers both Range Rover Sport PHEV and Range Rover PHEV across 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, all tied to the water outlet tube in the cooling system.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Land Rover technician replaces the engine coolant elbow and the turbocharger feed coolant pipe. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. This work addresses the coolant path that can leak onto the turbocharger heat shield after engine overheating damages the elbow pipe. If you already paid for a repair tied to this defect, Land Rover's reimbursement plan covers eligible documented costs, subject to its usual terms and conditions. Bring your repair invoice and payment records to the service desk.
