2020-2022 Honda 4-Model Recall 23V174: Mirror Glass

Recall 23V174 affects 339,404 2020-2022 Honda Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles for detaching mirror glass. Repair is free at any franchised Honda dealer.

Honda is recalling 339,404 2020-2022 Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles because the heating pads behind both side-view mirrors were not bonded correctly, which lets the mirror glass detach. Detached mirror glass can reduce driver visibility and increase crash risk, and Honda dealers will repair the mirrors free of charge.

What's wrong?

The exterior side view mirror on the 2020-2022 Honda Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport gives the driver a rearward view along each side of the vehicle. A heater pad behind the mirror glass warms the surface to help clear moisture, and adhesive tape holds that pad and glass assembly to the backing plate.

On affected vehicles, that adhesive tape does not have enough bonding strength. During normal driving, the bond can loosen until the mirror glass separates from the backing plate. If the glass falls out, the driver loses part of the outside rear view, and the vehicle no longer meets rear visibility requirements.

There is no warning sign before failure. Some owners reported mirror vibration before detachment, so treat shaking glass or glass that looks loose as a reason to have the mirror checked before relying on it in traffic.

Who's affected?

The same right exterior mirror set appears across Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 model years.

What's the safety risk?

Detached side mirror glass can reduce driver visibility and increase crash risk. If a side mirror loses glass, use extra care, leave more room, and schedule the dealer repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Honda dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2020-2022 Honda Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, or Passport vehicle is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Honda dealer to schedule the free left and right side-view mirror replacement for the mirror glass detachment problem.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Honda mailed one. If not, reference recall number 23V174 and Honda recall FE5 when you call.
  4. Drive with extra mirror checks until the repair is complete, since detached mirror glass reduces driver visibility.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Honda technician replaces the left and right side-view mirrors, including the mirror glass assemblies affected by the loose heating pad bond. The replacement parts and labor are covered now under recall 23V174. If you've already paid out of pocket for this mirror repair, Honda's recall reimbursement plan covers eligible documented expenses. Bring receipts or repair paperwork to the service desk, or contact Honda customer service for the claim path.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 23V174?

Recall 23V174 covers 339,404 2020-2022 Honda Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles with side-view mirror heating pads that were not bonded properly. The mirror glass can detach, reducing rear visibility and increasing crash risk. Honda dealers replace both side-view mirrors for free.

What should I do if my 2020-2022 Honda Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot, or Passport is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 23V174. If it is, contact a franchised Honda dealer to schedule replacement of both side-view mirrors. Reference Honda recall number FE5 when you call. The repair is free.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the defect repair at no cost, and Honda's remedy says dealers will replace both left and right side-view mirrors free of charge. Use a franchised Honda dealer for the recall work.

What is the safety risk from recall 23V174?

The safety risk is reduced driver visibility. If the side-view mirror glass detaches, the driver has less rear visibility from that mirror, which increases crash risk. Honda's free dealer remedy is to replace both side-view mirrors.

What if I bought my Honda used?

The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the vehicle, not the original owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific Honda is included, then give the dealer recall number 23V174 or Honda recall number FE5 when scheduling service.
