What's wrong?
The grille surround on 2020-2024 International Hx trucks is the body trim that frames the front grille and sits against the hood. It helps hold the front appearance panel in place while the truck is moving. The surround is attached with mounting brackets, so those brackets have to stay tight and protected from corrosion.
On affected trucks, the steel surround has insufficient plating where the eight mounting brackets attach. That leaves small areas of bare steel exposed. As corrosion builds, the bracket attachment area weakens. The grille surround can loosen, rattle, and detach from the truck during operation.
Before separation, the driver should hear the grille surround rattling while the truck is in use. During a pre-trip walkaround, the surround should also look out of place because it is not sitting flush against the hood.
Who's affected?
Spans five model years of the Hx, all tied to the grille surround in the body structure.

What's the safety risk?
A loose grille surround can detach, fall into traffic, and create a road hazard that increases crash risk. Listen for rattling while driving and check during a walkaround that the grille surround sits flush against the hood. If it is loose or rattling, call the dealer and schedule service soon. Repair is free at any franchised International dealer.
