What's wrong?

The entry door latch on these 2023 motorhomes is the handle and lock assembly that lets the coach door open and close from inside or outside. It holds the door shut while traveling, then releases the door when someone turns the handle. The affected doors use a Global Latch LK702 in Lippert series 3500 and 920 Entry Doors.

The problem started with a supplier design change to the handle. The change was meant to make the retaining ring, the small ring that helps keep the handle attached, sit more securely in its groove. Instead, it created a weakened attachment point inside the latch. When that point fails, the latch does not release the door as intended. This can leave someone unable to enter or exit through the main coach door.

The warning sign is direct: the latch will not operate. From inside the coach, the door will not open when the handle is used.

Who's affected?

What's the safety risk?

A door latch that will not operate can leave an occupant unable to exit the coach during an emergency, increasing the risk of injury. Treat an inside handle that fails to open the door as a reason to schedule service soon and use another exit if needed. Repair is free at any franchised Fleetwood dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2023 Discovery, Discovery Lxe, Bounder, Flair, Fortis, Frontier, Invicta, Admiral, Vacationer, Eclipse, Endeavor, Navigator, Armada, Nautica, Southwind, Flex, Pace Arrow, American Tradition, or Frontier Gtx motorhome is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Fleetwood dealer to schedule the free entry-door-latch inspection and replacement that fixes the latch failure that can block entry or exit.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Fleetwood mailed one. If not, reference recall number 23V166 when you call.
  4. Check the entry door before each trip until the repair is complete, and keep another exit clear for emergencies.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Fleetwood technician inspects the entry door latch and replaces it if the latch does not pass the inspection instructions. The inspection, replacement parts, and labor are free under the recall. The reimbursement plan covers the inspection when the latch is not defective, and covers parts and labor when the latch is defective, as determined by the Lippert Entry Door Latch Inspection / Replacement Instructions. If you already paid for this latch work, keep your receipts and service paperwork for the reimbursement claim.
