Recall 23V139 covers 150 2020-2023 Off Grid Trailers Expedition, Switchback, and Pando travel trailers for fractured cooktop burner tubes. Dealer repair is free.

Off Grid Trailers is recalling 150 2020-2023 Expedition, Switchback, and Pando travel trailers equipped with certain SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktops because internal aluminum burner tubes can fracture and leak gas. A gas leak near an ignition source can increase the risk of fire, and the recall repair is free.

What's wrong?

The Suburban SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktop in these 2020-2023 Off Grid Trailers Expedition, Switchback, and Pando travel trailers uses internal aluminum burner tubes to move gas from the gas valves to the cooktop burners. When the valve is opened, gas travels through those tubes so the burner can light and hold a controlled flame.

On affected trailers, those aluminum burner tubes are not standing up to the vibration and shock that recreational vehicles experience on the road and at campsites. The tube can fracture. Once that happens, gas can escape inside the cooktop instead of reaching the burner the way it should.

There is no warning sign before failure. Treat any smell of gas near the cooktop as a stop-use condition, shut off the gas supply, ventilate the trailer, and have the trailer inspected before using the cooktop again.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific trailer is included.

What's the safety risk?

A gas leak near an ignition source can start a fire. Until the recall inspection is complete, avoid using the cooktop and keep ignition sources away from the appliance area. Schedule the recall inspection soon. Repair is free at any franchised Off Grid Trailers dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2020-2023 Off Grid Trailers Expedition, Switchback, or Pando trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Off Grid Trailers dealer to schedule the free cooktop inspection and repair that checks the burner tubes and replaces the cooktop when needed.
  3. Stop using the SDS2 2-burner cooktop until the burner tubes are inspected, because fractured internal aluminum burner tubes can leak gas.
  4. Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 23V139 when you call.
  5. Call Off Grid Trailers customer service at 1-780-616-2830 with questions about scheduling or cooktop replacement.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, an Off Grid Trailers technician installs a regulator support bracket on unsold trailers. For sold trailers, the technician inspects the cooktop burner tubes, repairs the burner tube issue, and replaces the cooktop when needed. Parts and labor are free under recall 23V139. Off Grid Trailers has a general reimbursement plan on file for eligible out-of-pocket repairs paid before the recall notice. Ask Off Grid Trailers customer service how to submit documentation for that claim.
