What's wrong?
The Suburban two-burner LP cooktop in the 2021-2023 Airstream Interstate, Basecamp, Bambi, and Atlas uses internal aluminum burner tubes to carry propane from the gas valves to the burners. When you turn a cooktop valve on, that tube feeds gas to the burner so the flame can light and stay controlled.
On affected cooktops, travel vibration or a sharp shock during RV use can crack the aluminum burner tube. Once the tube fractures, propane no longer stays sealed inside the cooktop gas path. The leak starts inside the cooktop area, at the connection between the gas valve and burner.
Before failure is found, an owner can hear a louder hissing sound than normal when the cooktop gas valve is in the "on" position. The other warning sign is propane odor near the cooktop when the valve is turned on.

What's the safety risk?
A gas leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. If you hear a louder than normal hissing sound or smell propane when the cooktop gas valve is on, turn the valve off, ventilate the area, and schedule service soon. Repair is free at any franchised Airstream dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Airstream technician installs a regulator support bracket for the SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktop. The bracket supports the cooktop's gas regulator area so the gas connections are not left unsupported. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Airstream used its general reimbursement plan for this campaign, so documented out-of-pocket repairs tied to this cooktop issue can be submitted for review. Keep receipts and repair paperwork, and ask Airstream Customer Service or the dealer service desk how to file the claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 23V134?
Recall 23V134 covers 6,827 2021-2023 Airstream Interstate, Basecamp, Bambi, and Atlas vehicles with SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktops. The internal aluminum burner tubes can fracture, create a gas leak, and raise fire risk if an ignition source is present.
What should I do if my 2021-2023 Airstream Interstate, Basecamp, Bambi, or Atlas is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific Airstream is included in recall 23V134. If it is, contact a franchised Airstream dealer to schedule the regulator support bracket installation. Reference recall number 23V134 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Airstream dealers will install the regulator support bracket free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for vehicles included in recall 23V134.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is fire. NHTSA campaign 23V134 says the cooktop burner tubes can fracture and cause a gas leak. A gas leak near an ignition source increases fire risk, so avoid using the cooktop until the dealer completes the recall repair.
