Recall 23V057 covers 1,120 2019-2023 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body vehicles for uncontrolled crane movement. The software update is free through Maintainer.
Maintainer is recalling 1,120 2019-2023 Crane W/ Service Body service trucks because a hydraulic telescopic crane can keep moving if power is disconnected to its receiver. Losing control of the crane while it is moving raises the risk of injury to the operator or people nearby, and Maintainer dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The crane on 2019-2023 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body trucks uses an Eaton HFX20m programmable controller, a small computer that turns remote-control commands into crane movement. During normal operation, the wireless remote sends a command to the receiver, and the controller powers the crane function only while the operator is holding that control. Releasing the button should stop the movement.
The problem is in the controller software. If power is cut to the crane receiver while a function is active, the controller does not receive the next change-of-state signal. Because the code lacks the stop instruction for that condition, the function stays latched on and the crane continues moving without the user's control.
There is no warning sign before failure if the wiring harness to the crane receiver is damaged or disconnected during crane operation. The operator can release the remote button and still see the crane keep rotating or moving.
Who's affected?
All listed years use the same boom/crane/ladder component, so a similar service-body truck still needs a VIN match before it is treated as included.
| 2019 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body | Boom/crane/ladder |
|---|---|
| 2020 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body | Boom/crane/ladder |
| 2023 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body | Boom/crane/ladder |
| 2021 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body | Boom/crane/ladder |
| 2022 Maintainer Crane W/ Service Body | Boom/crane/ladder |
| Units affected | 1,120 |
| Field incidents | NHTSA has logged no field incidents to date. |
The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
Loss of crane control while the crane is moving can increase the risk of injury to the operator or people nearby. If the crane receiver wiring harness is damaged or disconnected during operation, there is no reliable warning sign before control is lost. Repair is free at any franchised Maintainer dealer.

At the service visit, a Maintainer technician installs the crane software update so the programmable controller receives the corrected control logic. The software update is free under the recall. If you've already paid to have the software update applied, or paid to send the programmable controller back for the update, Maintainer's reimbursement process covers eligible documented costs. Keep the reimbursement information from your owner letter and any repair or shipping paperwork when you contact Maintainer customer service.
