Recall 22V880 affects 18,808 2017-2018 Ford F-250 Sd, F-350 Sd, and F-450 Sd trucks for driveshaft fractures. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
Ford is recalling 18,808 2017-2018 F-350 Sd, F-450 Sd, and F-250 Sd 4x4 trucks because a driveshaft damper can shift out of place and lead to a driveshaft fracture. A fractured driveshaft can cut drive power or let a parked truck roll if the parking brake is not engaged; Ford dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The driveshaft on the 2017-2018 Ford F-250 Sd, F-350 Sd, and F-450 Sd trucks sends engine power from the transmission toward the rear axle. Inside the affected driveshaft is an internal radial damper, a weight-and-rubber assembly that helps control vibration as the shaft spins. When it stays in its designed position, the driveline turns smoothly under load.
On affected 4x4 trucks, the rubber over-mold rings around that damper deform at higher driveshaft speed. Once the rubber loses its hold, the damper moves out of position inside the shaft. That shift throws the driveshaft out of balance, and the extra vibration can lead to a driveshaft fracture.
A driver is expected to notice noise, vibration, or harshness before the part fails. That can feel like a new shake through the floor, a driveline vibration at speed, or unusual noise from under the truck.
Who's affected?
The F-250 Sd, F-350 Sd, and F-450 Sd share the same two-piece driveshaft part across the 2017 and 2018 model years.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific pickup truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
A fractured driveshaft can cause loss of drive power and increases crash risk. A parked vehicle can also roll away if the parking brake is not engaged. Noise, vibration, or harshness are warning signs, so use the parking brake every time you park and schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2018 Ford F-350 Sd, F-450 Sd, or F-250 Sd is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free driveshaft replacement that fixes the driveshaft imbalance and fracture risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Ford mailed one. If not, reference recall number 22V880 and Ford recall 22S74 when you call.
- Set the parking brake every time you park until the repair is complete.
- Ask Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 about scheduling, parts, or recall-notice questions.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician replaces the driveshaft covered by the recall. The replacement parts and labor are free. If you already paid out of pocket for a related driveshaft repair before the recall notice, Ford's standard reimbursement plan covered eligible documented costs through January 27, 2023. Bring repair invoices and payment records to the service desk, or contact Ford customer service if the dealer needs claim details.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 22V880?
Recall 22V880 covers 18,808 2017-2018 Ford F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 4x4 vehicles with a driveshaft damper that can move out of position, create imbalance, and fracture the driveshaft. Ford dealers will replace the driveshaft for free.
What should I do if my 2017-2018 Ford F-350 Sd, F-450 Sd, or F-250 Sd is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 22V880. If it is, contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free driveshaft replacement. Reference Ford recall number 22S74 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair recall defects at no cost, and Ford says dealers will replace the affected driveshaft free of charge at any franchised Ford dealer.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is loss of drive power or parked-vehicle rollaway if the parking brake is not engaged. Ford links both conditions to an increased crash risk in recall 22V880. Use the parking brake when parked, and schedule the free driveshaft replacement if your VIN is included.
What if I bought my Ford Super Duty used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the vehicle, not the first owner. If Ford did not mail you a notice, check your VIN and give the dealer recall number 22V880 or Ford number 22S74 when scheduling service.
