What's wrong?
The power steering pressure line on 2019-2022 Micro Bird G5 School Bus buses carries pressurized steering fluid through the hydraulic steering system. That same pressure also feeds the brake Hydroboost unit, which uses hydraulic force to help the driver apply the brakes with less pedal effort. The hose connection has to stay tight so fluid pressure reaches both systems.
On affected buses, the connection between the pressure line and the Hydroboost unit is not secure enough. The line can leak or lose fluid suddenly at that fitting. When the system loses fluid, steering assist can drop and brake assist can be reduced, so the driver has to use more effort to steer or stop the bus.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver can notice heavier steering, a harder brake pedal, or fluid under the bus only after the connection has started to leak.
Who's affected?
The same G5 School Bus model appears across the 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 model years, with both the power steering system and hydraulic brake hose included.

What's the safety risk?
A sudden loss of power steering fluid can take away power steering and power brake assist, increasing crash risk. Without assist, steering and braking require more effort. If the G5 School Bus feels hard to steer or brake, pull over safely and arrange service. Repair is free at any franchised Micro Bird dealer.
