Riverside is recalling 1,169 2023 Xplorer, Intrepid, and Retro travel trailers because the electric retractable awning's welded fabric seam can separate and let the awning drop beyond normal operation. What's wrong?

The electric retractable awning on affected 2023 Riverside Xplorer, Intrepid, and Retro travel trailers is the fabric shade assembly mounted to the side of the trailer. When it works normally, the motor and arms extend the awning fabric outward and hold it in its set position while the trailer is parked.

The problem is in the heat welded seam in the awning fabric. That weld is supposed to keep the fabric panels joined as the awning extends, retracts, and carries its own tension. On these trailers, the weld is insufficient, so the fabric can separate from the side of the unit. Once that happens, the awning can drop beyond its normal range instead of staying supported by the assembly.

The warning sign is visible separation of the fabric from the side of the trailer. If you see the fabric pulling away, keep the awning retracted and describe that separation to the Riverside dealer.

Who's affected?

Covers the Xplorer, Intrepid, and Retro from the 2023 model year, all with the same awning equipment.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific trailer is included.

What's the safety risk?

An awning that drops or extends past normal operation increases the risk of injury near the trailer. If the fabric is separating from the side of the unit, keep people clear of the awning and schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Riverside dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2023 Riverside Xplorer, Intrepid, or Retro travel trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Riverside dealer to schedule the free awning repair or replacement that fixes the welded-fabric separation and awning drop.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Riverside mailed one. If not, reference recall number 22V755 when you call.
  4. Keep people clear of the awning until the repair is complete; an awning that drops beyond normal operation can injure someone nearby.
