What's wrong?
The hood bezel covers on 2020-2023 Western Star 49X and 47X trucks are stainless steel trim pieces fitted to the inner and outer hood bezels around the air intake. The bezel frames that opening and helps finish the hood structure. The cover is supposed to stay bonded to the bezel while the truck is moving, vibrating, and taking normal road loads.
On affected trucks, the stainless steel cover can lose its bond to the hood bezel. Once that bond lets go, the cover is no longer held securely to the air intake area. It can detach from the hood and fall off while the truck is on the road.
There is no warning sign before failure. A loose edge, rattle, or missing cover is reason to have a Western Star dealer inspect the hood bezel covers.
