What's wrong?
The electric retractable awning is the fabric shade assembly mounted along the side of affected 2022-2023 Keystone travel trailers. When it works normally, the motor and arms roll the fabric out for shade, then pull it back tight against the side of the trailer for travel. The fabric has to stay attached at its welded joint so the awning moves in a controlled path.
On these trailers, the heat-welded joint in the awning fabric is not strong enough. As the awning is extended, retracted, or loaded by its own weight, that joint can separate from the side of the unit. Once the fabric separates, the awning can drop farther than normal operation allows.
The warning sign is visible fabric separation along the side of the trailer. If you see the awning fabric pulling away from the unit, stop using the awning and tell the Keystone dealer what you found.
