2022-2023 Keystone Trailer Recall 22V604: Awning Weld

Recall 22V604 covers 20,610 2022-2023 Keystone travel trailers for awning fabric that can separate and drop. Repair is free at any franchised Keystone dealer.

Keystone is recalling 20,610 2022-2023 travel trailers, including Bullet and Coleman models, because the electric retractable awning fabric has a welded seam that can separate and let the awning drop beyond normal operation. An awning that drops this way increases injury risk, and Keystone dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?

The electric retractable awning is the fabric shade assembly mounted along the side of affected 2022-2023 Keystone travel trailers. When it works normally, the motor and arms roll the fabric out for shade, then pull it back tight against the side of the trailer for travel. The fabric has to stay attached at its welded joint so the awning moves in a controlled path.

On these trailers, the heat-welded joint in the awning fabric is not strong enough. As the awning is extended, retracted, or loaded by its own weight, that joint can separate from the side of the unit. Once the fabric separates, the awning can drop farther than normal operation allows.

The warning sign is visible fabric separation along the side of the trailer. If you see the awning fabric pulling away from the unit, stop using the awning and tell the Keystone dealer what you found.

Who's affected?

The scope spans Keystone and Dutchmen trailer lines from the 2022 and 2023 model years, all tied to the same awning component.

2022 Dutchmen Coleman Recreational vehicle/trailer

Field incidentsNHTSA has logged no field incidents to date.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific trailer is included.

What's the safety risk?

An awning that drops or extends beyond normal operation can strike someone nearby and increase the risk of injury. If the fabric is separating from the side of the unit, keep people clear of the awning and schedule the recall repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Keystone dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2022-2023 Keystone or Dutchmen travel trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Keystone dealer to schedule the free awning-fabric repair or replacement that fixes fabric separation and keeps the awning from dropping beyond normal operation.
  3. Bring the recall notice if you have it, and reference recall number 22V604 when you call.
  4. Keep people clear of the awning until the repair is complete, especially when extending or retracting it.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Keystone technician checks the electric retractable awning fabric and repairs the welded fabric seam or replaces the awning fabric if needed. The recall covers parts and labor at no charge. Keystone has a manufacturer reimbursement plan on file for owners who already paid for a related awning repair before the recall notice. Contact Keystone customer service or ask the dealer service desk how to submit prior repair documentation under that plan.
