Recall 22V544 covers 99,186 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee 4XE SUVs for inoperative tail light side markers. Free repair at any franchised Jeep dealer.
Jeep is recalling 99,186 2021-2022 Grand Cherokee 4XE and Grand Cherokee vehicles because tail light side marker assemblies can be damaged and fail to illuminate. Reduced side-marker lighting can make the vehicle harder for other drivers to see and increase crash risk; Jeep dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The tail light side marker on the 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE and Grand Cherokee is part of the rear lamp assembly. Its job is to illuminate the side edge of the vehicle so other drivers can see its position in darkness, rain, or other low-light conditions. The same assembly also has to meet FMVSS 108 lighting requirements for lamps and reflective equipment.
On affected vehicles, Jeep says the taillamp side marker was damaged before or during vehicle production. A damaged side marker can fail to illuminate, even when the exterior lights are switched on. That leaves the vehicle without the required side marker lighting from that lamp assembly, which is why Jeep's repair is to inspect and replace tail lamp assemblies as needed with compliant parts.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner only knows the side marker is out by checking the exterior lights or having a dealer inspect the lamp assembly.
Who's affected?
Covers two Grand Cherokee variants across the 2021 and 2022 model years, with the same right tail light lamp assembly identified in the recall scope.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included.
What's the safety risk?
A side marker in the tail light that does not illuminate makes the Jeep harder for other drivers to see and increases the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before the light is out, so schedule the inspection and repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Jeep dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE or Grand Cherokee is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Jeep dealer to schedule the free tail-light side-marker inspection and replacement that restores the exterior lighting.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 22V544 and Jeep recall Z50 when you call.
- Use extra care at night until the repair is complete, since a damaged side marker tail light reduces visibility to other drivers.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Jeep technician inspects both body-mounted tail light assemblies and replaces any damaged assembly that does not illuminate. The inspection, replacement parts, and labor are free under the recall. FCA US has a reimbursement process for owners who paid for the same problem before the recall. If you paid out of pocket, send the original receipt or other proof of payment to FCA US as described in the owner letter so the expense can be confirmed.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 22V544?
Recall 22V544 covers 99,186 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles with tail light side marker assemblies that can be damaged and fail to illuminate. That reduces visibility to other drivers and increases crash risk. Jeep dealers will inspect and replace both body-mounted tail light assemblies as needed for free.
What should I do if my 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee or Grand Cherokee 4XE is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 22V544. If it is, contact a franchised Jeep dealer to schedule the tail light inspection and replacement as needed. Reference recall 22V544 or Jeep recall number Z50 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Jeep dealers will inspect and replace both body-mounted tail light assemblies as needed free of charge. The free repair applies at any franchised Jeep dealer.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is reduced visibility to other drivers. If a tail light side marker does not illuminate, drivers behind or beside the vehicle have less visual information, which increases crash risk. The dealer repair fixes the affected tail light assemblies for free.
What if I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the VIN, not the first owner. If you did not receive the owner letter mailed June 8, 2023, check your VIN and give the Jeep dealer recall 22V544 or Jeep recall number Z50 when scheduling service.
