Recall 22V533 covers 16,977 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles for wiring-harness corrosion that can short-circuit. Repair is free at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 16,977 2019-2022 AMG GT53, AMG E53, AMG CLS53, and AMG GT43 vehicles because the transmission wiring harness can be misrouted, exposing an electrical connector to corrosion. That corrosion can cause a short circuit and raise the risk of a fire; Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and repair the harness free of charge.

What's wrong?
The transmission wiring harness on the 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53, AMG E53, AMG CLS53, and AMG GT43 carries electrical signals and power near the transmission. The connector at the end of that harness has to stay sealed so moisture and road contamination stay out of the circuit.
On affected vehicles, the harness was routed with too much tension during production. That tension can pull back the wire insulation at the connector, leaving the seal unable to do its job. Once the connector is exposed, corrosion can form, and the damaged connection can create an electrical short-circuit.
Before the short-circuit happens, the driver can see a yellow battery indicator lamp for the charging system, a 4Matic malfunction warning message, or both in the instrument cluster. Those warnings mean the electrical system has detected a problem and the vehicle needs dealer attention.

What's the safety risk?
An electrical short-circuit can increase the risk of a fire. If the yellow battery indicator lamp or "4Matic malfunction" message appears, stop in a safe place and call a Mercedes-Benz dealer before continuing. The dealer will inspect and repair the connector, reroute the harness, and add a bracket if needed. Repair is free at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53, AMG E53, AMG CLS53, or AMG GT43 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule the free wiring-harness reroute and electrical-connector inspection or repair that addresses corrosion and electrical short-circuit risk.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 22V533 when you call.
- Call Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372 with questions about the dealer repair.
- Ask the dealer whether the vehicle is safe to drive before the appointment if you notice electrical issues or a burning smell.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mercedes-Benz technician inspects the transmission wiring harness electrical connector and repairs it if needed. The technician also reroutes the harness and installs an additional bracket so the connector is better protected from corrosion. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Mercedes-Benz uses its general reimbursement plan for this campaign, so documented out-of-pocket repairs tied to this issue can be submitted for review. Bring prior repair paperwork to the service desk.
