What's wrong?
The electronic parking brake on the 2022 Freightliner Cascadia is the system that holds the truck after it is parked. Its Brake Electronic Control Unit, or brake controller, manages the command to apply that parking brake. When the key is turned off, the controller is supposed to initiate park brake engagement so the truck stays secured after shutdown.
On the recalled Cascadia trucks, DTNA found that this command was not starting after shutdown on specific limited production vehicles with a specific braking system. The park brake remained functional while the truck was turned on, but after key-off the automatic engagement step did not complete. If the driver leaves the truck believing the brake is set, the truck can roll away.
The warning sign is on the dash. A dash light confirms proper park brake engagement, and that light will fail to illuminate if the brake is not applied.

Not every 2022 Freightliner Cascadia truck is on the list. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the parking brake is not applied, the warning light that confirms park brake engagement fails to illuminate. That leaves a parked vehicle at risk of rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash. Set the brake carefully and contact a Freightliner dealer for current instructions. Repair will be free at any franchised Freightliner dealer once available.
What should I do?

- Contact a franchised Freightliner dealer and ask when the free fused harness overlay is ready for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 22V468 when you call, and bring the owner letter if you have it.
- Treat the electronic parking brake as unreliable until the harness-overlay repair is complete.
- Park on level ground, set all required parking controls, and chock the wheels when the truck is parked.
What happens at the repair
