Recall 22V420 covers 322,671 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles for a secondary hood latch defect. Repair will be free at any franchised Nissan dealer once available.
Nissan is recalling 322,671 2013-2016 Pathfinder SUVs because the secondary hood latch can malfunction and leave the hood unsecured after it is closed. An unsecured hood can open while driving and block the driver's view, and the Nissan dealer repair will be free once Nissan makes it available.

What's wrong?
The hood latch on the 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder is the hardware that holds the hood shut after it is closed. It includes a secondary latch and a bell crank assembly, a small pivoting lever that helps the hood lock move into the secured position. When the latch moves freely, the hood stays closed against wind and road vibration.
On affected Pathfinders, dust and dirt build up around the bell crank lever pivot joint. That grit makes the pivot bind instead of rotating cleanly. Scratches in the anti-corrosion coating also leave bare metal exposed, so corrosion can form at the joint and make the binding worse. If the secondary hood latch stays in the unlatched position, the hood is not fully secured after closing.
There is no warning sign before failure. The hood can look closed even when the secondary latch has not returned to the secured position, so an owner will not get a clear dashboard message or sound before the latch problem matters.
Who's affected?
VINs have been searchable since August 3, 2022, and all 2013-2016 Pathfinder model years point to the same bell crank assembly in the hood latch.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included.
What's the safety risk?
An unsecured hood can open while the Pathfinder is moving, block the driver’s view, and increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before it happens, so schedule the recall repair and avoid putting off service. Repair will be free at any franchised Nissan dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder is included in this recall.
- Review Nissan's owner letter if you received one; letters were mailed March 26, 2025.
- Contact a franchised Nissan dealer to ask whether the free hood-latch bell-crank replacement is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 22V420 when you call, and ask the dealer to connect the bell-crank repair to the secondary hood latch that can remain unsecured.
- Keep the hood fully latched before each trip and stop driving if it does not close securely.
What happens at the repair
Nissan has identified the dealer repair: a Nissan technician replaces the bell crank assembly tied to the secondary hood latch. Because this recall is still under development, do not treat the final repair as ready to schedule until Nissan opens it. The dealer repair will be free once available. Nissan's reimbursement statement covers the cost of a related repair paid before the recall notice when the Pathfinder was no longer under warranty at the time of repair. Keep prior repair paperwork and ask Nissan customer service how to submit it under that plan.
