What's wrong?
The passenger-side rear door on 2021-2022 Ford Bronco four-door vehicles uses a latch assembly mounted to the door sheet metal. That latch holds the door closed and works with the child safety lock on the rear edge of the door. When the child safety lock is set to ON, the inside handle is supposed to stay disabled so a rear-seat passenger cannot open the door from inside.
On affected Broncos, the right rear door sheet metal has latch attachment locations that are out of Ford's design specification. The stamping tolerance at the facility allowed the attachment holes to sit out of position. When the latch is fastened to that door, the latch housing and frame plate deform. That deformation allows the passenger-side rear door to open from inside even with the child safety lock turned on.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem is only apparent when the passenger-side rear door opens from inside after the child safety lock has been set to ON.
Who's affected?
The listed part is the right rear door lock for both model years.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included.
What's the safety risk?
A passenger-side child safety lock that malfunctions increases the risk of injury to a child occupant. There is no warning sign before the lock or latch fails, so keep children seated and belted, and schedule the inspection soon. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2022 Ford Bronco is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free inspection and replacement, if needed, of the passenger-side rear child safety lock and latch that can let the door open when the lock is on.
- Bring the recall notice if Ford mailed one. If not, reference recall number 22V411 and Ford recall 22S44 when you call.
- Avoid relying on the passenger-side rear child safety lock until the dealer finishes the inspection or replacement.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician inspects the passenger side rear door child safety lock and latch. If the lock or latch does not hold the door closed from the inside when the child safety lock is on, the technician replaces the affected parts. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Ford's general reimbursement plan covers documented owner paid remedy costs before the recall notice, with eligibility ending July 18, 2022. If you paid out of pocket, ask Ford customer service or the dealer about submitting documentation under that plan.
