What's wrong?
The SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktop in affected 2018-2021 Escape travel trailers uses internal aluminum burner tubes to carry gas from the cooktop valves to the burners. When you turn a burner valve on, those tubes are supposed to deliver gas cleanly to the burner so it lights at the cooktop instead of escaping inside the appliance.
On these units, the aluminum tubes can harden after repeated vibration, shock, or impact while the trailer is in use or being moved. Once the metal hardens, a tube can fracture. A cracked burner tube lets gas leak before it reaches the burner. The remedy replaces the aluminum tubes with stainless steel tubes, which are less vulnerable to that vibration-related fracture.
A louder than normal hissing sound when the cooktop gas valve is turned to "on" is the warning sign to take seriously. If you hear that sound, turn the burner off and avoid using the cooktop until the recall repair is complete.
