What's wrong?
The Dometic 2-burner LPG cooktop in affected 2021-2022 Coachmen Nova, Beyond, and Galleria motorhomes is the propane cooking appliance built into the galley. Its burner control valves meter gas to each burner, so turning a knob opens the valve enough for ignition and flame control. When those valves seal correctly, gas flows only where it is supposed to burn.
On these cooktops, the burner control valve sealing surfaces were damaged by abrasions inside or outside the valve. Those scratched metal surfaces do not seal as designed. Propane can leak from the valve area instead of staying contained until it reaches the burner. The replacement cooktop looks the same to an owner, but it has a different serial number and does not contain the defective burner control valve.
The warning sign is the smell of gas while the cooktop is being used. That odor can come before ignition and before any flame is present, so shut the appliance off and treat the smell as a real warning.
