Recall 22V285 covers 18,101 2022 Toyota Tundra trucks for rearview-camera display failure in cold weather. Free repair at a franchised Toyota dealer.
Toyota is recalling 18,101 2022 Tundra trucks equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor because cold-weather software behavior can stop the rearview camera image from displaying. Without that image, the driver's view behind the truck is reduced, increasing crash risk, and Toyota dealers will update the parking assist ECU software free of charge.

What's wrong?
The Parking Assist ECU on the 2022 Toyota Tundra is the computer that manages the Panoramic View Monitor system. That system uses camera feeds around the truck, including the rearview camera feed, to show the driver what is behind the truck when reverse is selected.
On affected Tundras, the ECU software is programmed incorrectly. During startup, especially in cold weather, the camera signal voltage can rise above the level the system accepts. The ECU then treats the camera as abnormal and stops the signal from reaching the display, so the rearview image does not appear during a backing event.
There is no warning sign before failure. The rearview image simply does not display when the truck is in reverse, even though the driver expects the camera view to appear.
Who's affected?
The scope points to the Parking Assist ECU, tied to the parking assist display and its software.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific pickup truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
When the rearview camera does not show an image, the driver has less view of what is behind the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash while backing up. Use extra care in reverse and schedule the software repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Toyota dealer.
What should I do?

- Contact a franchised Toyota dealer to schedule the free parking-assist ECU software update that restores the rearview camera image in cold weather.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it, or reference recall number 22V285 and Toyota recall 22TA04 when you call.
- Use mirrors and look behind the truck when reversing until the repair is complete.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Toyota technician reprograms the parking assist ECU software so the rearview camera signal displays correctly in cold weather. The software update and labor are free under the recall. Toyota lists a general reimbursement plan for this campaign. If you've already paid for a related parking assist ECU or rearview camera software repair, ask Toyota customer service or the dealer service desk how to submit repair documentation under that plan.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 22V285?
Recall 22V285 covers 18,101 2022 Toyota Tundra trucks equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor system. In cold weather, parking assist ECU software can stop the rearview camera image from displaying, reducing the driver's view behind the truck and increasing crash risk. Toyota dealers reprogram the ECU software for free.
What should I do if my 2022 Toyota Tundra is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 22V285. If it is, contact a franchised Toyota dealer to schedule the parking assist ECU software reprogramming. Reference recall 22V285 or Toyota recall 22TA04 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair recall defects at no cost. Toyota dealers will reprogram the parking assist ECU software free of charge at any franchised Toyota dealer, regardless of where you bought the truck.
Is it safe to drive my 2022 Toyota Tundra before the repair?
Toyota has not issued a do-not-drive instruction for this recall. The safety risk is at the rear of the truck: a blank rearview camera image reduces the driver's view while backing up and increases crash risk. Use mirrors and direct visual checks until the ECU software is reprogrammed.
When were owners notified about recall 22V285?
Toyota mailed owner notification letters on June 2, 2022. If you bought the Tundra used or never received a letter, check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included, then call a franchised Toyota dealer for the free software reprogramming.
