What's wrong?
The long fuel injector in a 2021-2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport or Atlas meters gasoline into the engine. The filter element inside that injector is a small screen that keeps debris out of the injector's fuel passage before fuel is sprayed for combustion. The injector needs that filter in place to keep fuel flow controlled and contained.
On the affected vehicles, some long fuel injectors were built during 2 supplier production lots without that filter element. Volkswagen traced the issue to an incorrect assembly procedure and handling problem at the injector supplier. Without the filter installed, the injector is not built the way Volkswagen specified, and the recall repair replaces it with a component made outside the affected production periods with the filter installed.
If the condition is present, owners can recognize a fuel odor or visible fuel leakage. The check engine light can also illuminate. Treat those signs as a reason to contact a Volkswagen dealer and keep fuel odors or leaks away from ignition sources.
Who's affected?
Covers both Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport from the 2021 and 2022 model years, all using the same long fuel injector.
