Recall 22V232 covers 126,443 2018-2021 Mercedes-Benz vehicles for a rearview camera software error. Repair is free at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 126,443 2018-2021 vehicles, including A 220, C 300, E 450, and Glb 250 models, because a software error can stop the rearview camera from showing an image. Reduced rear visibility increases crash risk, and Mercedes-Benz dealers will update the software free of charge.

What's wrong?
The rearview camera software on these 2018-2021 Mercedes-Benz vehicles controls the image that appears on the center display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The camera looks behind the vehicle, but the software has to process that signal and put the rear view on the screen. That display helps the driver check the area behind the vehicle while backing up.
In affected vehicles, the rearview camera software was built outside current production specifications because of a supplier development process deviation. When the fault occurs, the display does not show the rearview image even though the driver expects it to appear. That failure means the vehicle does not meet the rear visibility standard and gives the driver less help seeing behind the vehicle during a backing maneuver.
There is no warning sign before failure. The driver will not receive an alert before the rearview image fails to display, so the missing camera image is the sign to report to a Mercedes-Benz dealer.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the rearview camera display stops working, the driver loses the camera view and the risk of a crash increases while backing up. There is no warning sign before the display failure, so confirm the camera image appears before reversing and use mirrors carefully. Repair is free at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2018-2021 Mercedes-Benz vehicle is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule the free rearview-camera software update that fixes the missing rearview image display.
- Bring the owner letter if you have it. If not, reference recall number 22V232 when you call.
- Use mirrors and look behind the vehicle when backing up until the repair is complete.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mercedes-Benz technician updates the rearview camera software so the camera display works as intended when the vehicle is backing up. The software update and labor are free under the recall. Mercedes-Benz's standard reimbursement plan covers eligible owners who already paid out of pocket to correct this same rearview camera software condition before the recall notice. Bring receipts or repair documentation to the service desk, or contact MBUSA customer service to start the reimbursement review.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 22V232?
Recall 22V232 covers 126,443 2018-2021 Mercedes-Benz vehicles with a rearview camera software error. The camera display can fail to show the rear view, reducing what the driver can see behind the vehicle and increasing crash risk. Mercedes-Benz dealers will update the software for free.
What should I do if my 2018-2021 Mercedes-Benz vehicle is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your vehicle is included in recall 22V232. If it is, contact a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule the rearview camera software update. Reference recall number 22V232 or Mercedes-Benz recall number 2022060007 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Mercedes-Benz says dealers will update the rearview camera software free of charge. Parts and labor are covered at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Is it safe to drive with recall 22V232 open?
The recall does not carry a do-not-drive order. The safety risk is that an inoperable rearview camera display reduces the driver's rear view and increases crash risk. Use direct visual checks when backing up, then schedule the free software update with a Mercedes-Benz dealer.
What if I bought my Mercedes-Benz used?
The free recall repair still applies. Federal recall law follows the vehicle, not the original owner. If the owner letter never reached you, check your VIN to confirm whether your vehicle is included, then call a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer for the free rearview camera software update.
