What's wrong?
The RAM coupler on the 2022 Big Tex 70SR and 50SR trailers is the metal hitch part that locks the trailer to the tow vehicle. It carries the pulling load at the front of the trailer, so its welds have to hold the coupler body together while the trailer moves, turns, and stops.
On affected trailers, the bottom portion of the CA-5400 coupler was not completely welded. From underneath, the faulty coupler has tack welds in spots instead of a continuous weld along the edges of both joined parts. That incomplete weld weakens the coupler, and the trailer can separate from the tow vehicle if the welds fail.
There is no warning sign before failure. Owners are not expected to hear a specific noise, see a light, or feel a clear change before the weld lets go.

What's the safety risk?
Trailer separation from the tow vehicle can increase the risk of a crash. There is no known warning before the coupler welds fail, so if your trailer is included, schedule the inspection soon and use extra care until the coupler is checked. Repair is free at any franchised Big Tex dealer.
