Recall 22V178 covers 26,093 2013-2017 Audi A8, S6, S7, S8, and RS 7 vehicles for blocked turbocharger oil strainers. Free repair at franchised Audi dealers.
Audi is recalling 26,093 2013-2017 A8, S6, S7, S8, and RS 7 vehicles because the turbocharger oil supply strainer can become blocked and cut lubrication to the bearings. Worn bearings can let the turbine wheel hit the housing or the shaft break, which can stall the engine and increase crash risk; Audi dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The oil strainer in these 2013-2017 Audi A8, S6, S7, S8, and RS 7 vehicles sits in the oil supply path for the turbochargers. Its job is to catch debris in the engine oil before that oil reaches the turbocharger bearings, which spin at very high speed and need a steady oil film to stay protected.
On affected vehicles, the strainer uses a 30-micron mesh that can plug with oil and carbon deposits. Once the screen is blocked, less oil reaches the turbocharger bearings. The bearings then wear from lack of lubrication, and the turbocharger and boost pressure system can stop working correctly. The repair uses a strainer with a larger 90-micron mesh.
Drivers can see EPC, malfunction indicator, or oil warning lights. Other warning signs include extended cranking, rough idle, or a lack of power.

What's the safety risk?
Worn turbocharger bearings can let the turbine wheel hit the housing or let the shaft break, causing an engine stall and increasing crash risk. Watch for EPC, MIL, or oil warning lights, extended cranking, rough idle, or lack of power. Schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Audi dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2013-2017 Audi A8, S6, S7, S8, or RS 7 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Audi dealer to schedule the free oil-strainer replacement and oil change that restore lubrication to the turbocharger bearings.
- Reference recall number 22V178 and Audi recall 21H7 when you call.
- Bring the owner letter if you have it; the dealer can still confirm the recall by VIN if you do not.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and pull over safely if the engine stalls.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Audi technician replaces the turbocharger oil supply strainer and performs an oil change. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. The strainer replacement addresses blockage that can starve the turbocharger bearings of oil. If you already paid out of pocket for this repair before the recall work was completed, Audi has a reimbursement plan for this campaign. Contact Audi customer service or ask the service desk what documentation they need for a reimbursement claim.

What should I do if my 2013-2017 Audi A8, S6, S7, S8, or RS 7 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 22V178. If it is, contact a franchised Audi dealer to schedule the oil strainer replacement and oil change. Reference recall number 22V178 or Audi recall 21H7 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
