Recall 22V150 covers 195,864 2016-2018 Ford F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator vehicles for brake master cylinder leaks. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
Ford is recalling 195,864 2016-2018 F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator vehicles with 3.5L Ecoboost engines because brake fluid can leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster. The leak can change brake pedal travel, increase pedal effort, and reduce front braking function, so Ford dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The brake master cylinder on the 2016-2018 F-150, Expedition, and Navigator with the 3.5L Ecoboost engine turns pedal pressure into hydraulic pressure. When you press the brake pedal, the master cylinder pushes brake fluid through separate brake circuits so the brakes at the wheels can apply.
On affected vehicles, brake fluid contamination can interfere with the rear cup seal inside the master cylinder, which is a rubber seal that keeps pressure and fluid in the correct chamber. Ford also found that the rearmost cup seal can roll out of position. When that happens, brake fluid can leak from the front wheel brake circuit into the brake booster, reducing the brake system's ability to build pressure for the front brakes.
Owners are not left without any warning sign. If the brake fluid reservoir drops to Ford's set level, the vehicle gives an audible chime, a message center alert, and a red brake warning light in the instrument cluster.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
Brake fluid loss can change brake pedal travel, increase pedal effort, and reduce front brake function. That means the vehicle needs more effort and distance to stop, which increases crash risk. A chime, message center alert, and red brake warning indicator appear when reservoir fluid drops to a set level. Schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2016-2018 F-150, Expedition, or Navigator is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free brake master cylinder replacement that fixes the brake fluid leak into the brake booster.
- Ask the dealer whether the brake booster also needs replacement if the master cylinder is leaking.
- Bring the recall notice if Ford mailed one. If not, reference recall number 22V150 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Leave extra stopping distance and avoid hard braking.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician replaces the brake master cylinder. If the master cylinder is leaking, the technician also replaces the brake booster. Parts and labor are free under the recall. If you paid out of pocket for this repair before the recall notice, Ford's general reimbursement plan covers eligible documented expenses through May 13, 2022. Bring repair paperwork to the service desk or contact Ford customer service about the claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 22V150?
Recall 22V150 covers 195,864 2016-2018 Ford F-150, 2016-2017 Ford Expedition, and 2016-2017 Lincoln Navigator vehicles with 3.5L Ecoboost engines. Brake fluid can leak from the brake master cylinder into the brake booster, reducing front brake function. Ford dealers will replace the brake master cylinder for free.
What should I do if my 2016-2018 Ford F-150, 2016-2017 Ford Expedition, or 2016-2017 Lincoln Navigator is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 22V150. If it is, contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the brake master cylinder replacement. Reference recall number 22V150 and Ford recall number 22S11 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Ford will replace the brake master cylinder for free, and if the master cylinder is leaking, the dealer will also replace the brake booster free of charge.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is reduced braking performance. Loss of brake fluid can change brake pedal travel, increase pedal effort, and reduce front brake function, so the vehicle takes more effort and distance to stop. Those conditions increase crash risk.
What if I bought the vehicle used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the VIN, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific F-150, Expedition, or Navigator is included, then call a franchised Ford dealer with recall number 22V150.
