What's wrong?
The hub motor on a 2021-2022 Ubco 2X2 Adv is the electric drive unit built into the wheel hub. It turns the wheel directly, so the motor, hub, and internal gear parts all have to stay aligned while the motorcycle is moving. Each bike has 2 hub motors.
On affected motorcycles, a gear inside the wheel hub was not secured with enough Loctite, the thread-locking adhesive that keeps the retaining thread from backing out. If that gear loosens, it can move out of position and contact the hub motor. Ubco is still investigating the exact cause, but the recall points to a manufacturing process problem in how the retaining thread was secured.
Before failure, an owner can hear a change in the sound the motor makes. Treat a new or unusual motor noise as the warning sign, especially if it comes from one wheel hub.
Who's affected?
The same hub motor is involved in both the electric propulsion system and wheel hardware portions of the recall for the 2021 and 2022 model years.
| 2021 Ubco 2X2 Adv | electric propulsion system |

| 2021 Ubco 2X2 Adv | wheel hardware |

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific motorcycle is included.
What's the safety risk?
Contact between the gear and hub motor can seize the wheel. That can lead to loss of control and increase crash risk. A change in motor noise before failure is a warning sign, so stop riding and contact the dealer if the motor sounds different. Repair will be free at any franchised Ubco dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2022 Ubco 2X2 Adv is included in this recall.
- Wait for Ubco's repair instructions if your VIN is included and no dealer appointment is available yet.
- Call Ubco customer service at 1-541-357-4067 with questions and reference recall number 22V132 (Ubco recall UBCO-CS-00017).
- Contact a franchised Ubco dealer to ask whether the free wheel-hub inspection and hub-motor replacement is open for your motorcycle.
- Ride cautiously until the repair is complete; stop riding if the wheel binds, drags, or feels like it is seizing.
What happens at the repair
Ubco has identified the dealer repair: a Ubco technician will inspect the wheel hub motor area and replace the hub motor if the loose gear has contacted or damaged it. Because the remedy is still listed as under development, treat the final repair as not open until Ubco confirms availability. Once it opens, parts and labor are covered under the recall. The service desk can also confirm whether your 2X2 Adv is included before any work is scheduled.
