What's wrong?
The throttle grip on the 2021 Yamaha MTT9GT is the right-hand handlebar grip the rider twists to control engine power. Inside that grip, the throttle grip tube and guide help the grip rotate smoothly and return toward idle when the rider releases it. The grip end is the handlebar end piece that supports the outside edge of that assembly.
On affected motorcycles, the grip end was not designed with enough support and clearance for a sideways pulling load. If a fallen motorcycle is pulled upright by the throttle grip, excessive lateral force can break the throttle grip tube at the guide. A broken guide piece can then interfere with throttle movement while the motorcycle is being operated, which can lead to loss of control and a crash.
On unmodified motorcycles, the rider can notice resistance when applying throttle and a slow return to idle after releasing the grip. Those are warning signs that the throttle assembly is not moving freely.

What should I do?

- Bring the recall notice, or reference recall number 22V110 and Yamaha recall 990156 when you call.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Yamaha technician inspects the throttle grip assembly, replaces the grip end with the updated design, and replaces the throttle grip assembly if inspection shows damage. Parts and labor are free under the recall. Until that work is complete, do not operate the motorcycle except to take it to the dealer. If you already paid for this throttle grip repair before the recall notice, contact Yamaha Customer Relations at 1-866-894-1626 to ask for reimbursement under Yamaha's program.
