2019-2021 Temsa TS45 Recall 22V106: Fuel Tube Leak

Recall 22V106 affects 7 2019-2021 Temsa TS45 motorcoaches for a high-pressure fuel leak risk. Repair will be free at any franchised Temsa dealer once available.

Temsa is recalling 7 2019-2021 TS45 motorcoaches with Cummins X12 diesel engines because fuel tubes for cylinders four, five, and six can fatigue and crack, leading to a high pressure fuel leak. Fuel leaking near an ignition source can raise the risk of fire, and the Temsa dealer repair will be free once Temsa makes the remedy available.

What's wrong?

The injector fuel supply tubes on the 2019-2021 Temsa TS45 motorcoach carry diesel fuel from the fuel rail to the engine injectors. The fuel rail holds fuel under high pressure, and each injector meters that fuel into its cylinder for combustion. These tubes have to stay sealed while the engine vibrates and heat cycles through normal service.

On affected TS45 motorcoaches, the tubes serving cylinders four, five, and six are susceptible to metal fatigue. Vibration strain, assembly strain, and material strength combine to stress the tube until it cracks. Once a crack opens, high-pressure diesel fuel leaks near the engine instead of staying inside the injection system.

Owners and operators can detect the problem during maintenance if fuel is present where it should not be. A fuel smell or visible fuel mist is the warning sign before the tube failure is found.

Who's affected?

Covers the 2019, 2020, and 2021 TS45 buses, all using the same injector fuel supply tube.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.

What's the safety risk?

A high pressure fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. If you smell fuel or see a mist around the engine, stop using the bus and contact a Temsa dealer for instructions before operating it again. Repair will be free at any franchised Temsa dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2019-2021 Temsa TS45 is included in this recall.
  2. Contact Temsa customer service at 1-833-628-3672 to confirm whether the final fuel-tube repair is open for your VIN.
  3. Reference recall number 22V106 when you call Temsa or a franchised Temsa dealer.
  4. Schedule the fuel-tube vibration-isolator repair when Temsa confirms availability; the repair addresses fuel tubes that can crack and leak high pressure fuel.
  5. Avoid operating the motorcoach if you smell fuel or see a fuel leak, and ask Temsa for handling instructions before moving it.

What happens at the repair

The final dealer repair is still under development, so do not treat this as ready to schedule yet. Once the repair opens, a Temsa technician will install vibration isolators on engines with 75 miles or less. Engines with more than 75 miles will get new fuel tubes for cylinders 4, 5, and 6 with vibration isolators added. Parts and labor are free under the recall. For prior out-of-pocket repairs not covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty, Cummins says a recall-specific reimbursement plan will be available through the Recall Portal.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 22V106?

Recall 22V106 covers 7 2019-2021 Temsa TS45 motorcoaches equipped with certain Cummins X12 diesel engines. Fuel tubes between the fuel rail and injectors can fatigue and crack, causing a high pressure fuel leak. Temsa will repair the fuel tubes for free.

What should I do if my 2019-2021 Temsa TS45 is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific motorcoach is included in recall 22V106. If it is, contact a franchised Temsa dealer or Temsa customer service at 1-833-628-3672 and ask for the fuel-tube recall repair plan. Reference recall 22V106 when you call.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Temsa dealers will install vibration isolators on engines with 75 miles or less, or replace the fuel tubes and add vibration isolators on engines with more than 75 miles.

What is the safety risk?

The safety risk is fire. A cracked fuel tube can release high pressure diesel fuel, and that fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases fire risk. If your VIN is included, arrange the free dealer repair and ask Temsa about safe vehicle handling before moving the motorcoach.
