Recall 22V087 covers 247,445 2017-2022 Ford F-250 Sd and F-350 Sd trucks for loose driveshaft insulators. Free repair at any franchised Ford dealer.
Ford is recalling 247,445 2017-2022 F-250 Sd and F-350 Sd Super Duty trucks with gasoline engines and aluminum driveshafts because underbody heat and noise insulators can loosen and contact the driveshaft. The damage can fracture the driveshaft, which can cause loss of drive power, loss of control if it contacts the ground, or unintended movement while parked; the dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The passenger-side underbody insulator on 2017-2022 Ford F-250 Sd and F-350 Sd trucks is a heat and noise shield mounted to the cab underbody. Its job is to keep exhaust and road heat, vibration, and sound away from the passenger compartment. The aluminum driveshaft runs nearby and carries engine power through the driveline to turn the rear wheels.
On affected trucks, the insulator adhesive does not hold the shield tight against the underbody. As it loosens, the shield sags into the path of the aluminum driveshaft. Repeated contact can score the driveshaft surface, weaken the tube, and damage the shaft enough for it to fracture.
An owner can notice a loose shield under the truck, or hear rattling, clicking, or clunking from underneath when the shield hits the driveshaft. Marking or scoring can also be visible on the driveshaft where the loose insulator has been rubbing.

What's the safety risk?
A fractured driveshaft can cut drive power or cause loss of control if it contacts the ground. A loose underbody insulator, rattling, clicking, clunking, or visible driveshaft scoring needs prompt dealer attention. Always engage the parking brake when parked. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2022 Ford F-250 Sd or F-350 Sd is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer to ask whether the free underbody-insulator and driveshaft repair is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 22V087 when you call, and bring the owner letter if Ford mailed one to you.
- Schedule the inspection and repair that secures the loose underbody insulators before they damage or fracture the aluminum driveshaft.
- Set the parking brake every time you park until the repair is complete.
What happens at the repair
Once available, the Ford dealer repair will be free. A Ford technician will inspect the aluminum driveshaft, repair the driveshaft parts that need repair, and properly attach the underbody heat and noise insulators so they stay clear of the driveshaft. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Ford's standard reimbursement plan covered documented owner-paid repairs before recall notification, with eligibility ending April 18, 2022. If you already paid for a related driveshaft or insulator repair, contact Ford customer service with your repair paperwork and ask how that plan applies to recall 22S09.
