2019-2021 Seagrave Fire Trucks Recall 21V964: Fuel Leak

Recall 21V964 affects 174 2019-2021 Seagrave Capital, Attacker, and Marauder vehicles for cracked fuel tubes. Repair is free at any franchised Seagrave dealer.

Seagrave is recalling 174 2019-2021 Capital, Attacker, and Marauder vehicles equipped with Cummins X12 engines because fuel tubes for cylinders four, five, and six can fatigue and crack. A high pressure fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of fire, and Seagrave dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The injector fuel supply tube on 2019-2021 Seagrave Capital, Attacker, and Marauder vehicles carries diesel fuel from the fuel rail to the injector. On the Cummins X12 engine, these tubes feed cylinders 4, 5, and 6 under high pressure so each injector delivers fuel into the engine at the right moment. The tube has to stay sealed while engine vibration and fuel pressure change.

On affected engines, the fuel tubes for cylinders 4, 5, and 6 are susceptible to fatigue cracking. A crack opens a path for high pressure diesel fuel to leak near engine components. Cummins traced field leaks to these tubes and identified a cylinder 5 fuel tube leak as the cause of a September 2021 fire. The replacement setup adds vibration isolators to the fuel tubes and uses a new part number.

There is no warning sign before failure. Once the leak starts, an operator can notice visible diesel fuel, fuel odor, or fuel found during inspection after the tube has already cracked.

What's the safety risk?

A high pressure fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. If you smell fuel, see a leak, or notice smoke, stop using the vehicle and call the dealer for guidance. Repair is free at any franchised Seagrave dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2019-2021 Seagrave Capital, Attacker, or Marauder is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Seagrave dealer to schedule the free fuel-tube repair that addresses cracking tubes and high-pressure fuel leaks.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Seagrave mailed one. If not, reference recall number 21V964 when you call.
  4. Limit use until the repair is complete because a high-pressure fuel leak near an ignition source raises fire risk.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Seagrave technician checks the engine mileage and repairs the fuel tube setup based on that reading. Engines with 75 miles or less get vibration isolators installed on the fuel tubes. Engines with more than 75 miles get new fuel tubes with vibration isolators. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. For units not covered by Cummins' limited warranty, Cummins provides a recall-specific reimbursement plan through its Recall Portal. Bring prior repair documentation to the service desk or contact Cummins customer service to start the claim.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 21V964?

Recall 21V964 covers 174 2019-2021 Seagrave Capital, Attacker, and Marauder vehicles with Cummins X12 engines. Fuel tubes for cylinders four, five, and six can fatigue and crack, leading to a high-pressure fuel leak. Seagrave dealers will repair the fuel tubes for free.

What should I do if my 2019-2021 Seagrave Capital, Attacker, or Marauder is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 21V964. If it is, contact a franchised Seagrave dealer to schedule the fuel-tube repair. Reference Seagrave recall number C2532 when you call. The repair is free.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Seagrave dealers will install vibration isolators on engines with 75 miles or less, or install new fuel tubes with vibration isolators on engines with more than 75 miles.

What is the safety risk?

The safety risk is fire. A cracked fuel tube can release high-pressure fuel, and that fuel leak can increase the risk of a fire if an ignition source is present. If your VIN is included, arrange the free dealer repair.

When were owners notified about recall 21V964?

Seagrave mailed owner notification letters on February 11, 2022. If you bought the vehicle used or never received a letter, check your VIN and call a franchised Seagrave dealer with recall number 21V964 or Seagrave recall number C2532.
