What's wrong?
The chassis harness on the 2019-2021 Old Dominion Brush Co. Trailer Mount Unit and Tow Behind Unit trailers feeds power to the breakaway switch. That switch is the trailer's emergency backup: if the trailer separates from the tow vehicle, the breakaway cable pulls a plug and the switch sends battery power to apply the trailer brakes.
On affected trailers equipped with John Deere engines, the breakaway switch was wired to the starter side of the solenoid instead of the battery side. The starter solenoid is the electrical junction that routes power for engine starting. Because the harness was not lengthened for the new engine layout, and the solenoid was exposed, assemblers were able to connect the breakaway switch to the wrong terminal. When the breakaway cable plug is pulled, the emergency brakes do not engage.
There is no warning sign before failure. The issue shows up when the breakaway cable system is tested or when the trailer separates and the emergency brakes fail to apply.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 21V926?
Recall 21V926 covers 286 2019-2021 Old Dominion Brush Co. Trailer Mount Unit and Tow Behind Unit trailers equipped with John Deere engines. The breakaway switch for the emergency brake system was wired incorrectly, so the trailer brake can fail to engage if the trailer becomes untethered. Dealers will inspect and re-wire the breakaway cable system for free.
What should I do if my 2019-2021 Old Dominion Brush Co. Trailer Mount Unit or Tow Behind Unit is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific trailer is included in recall 21V926. If it is, contact a dealer to schedule inspection of the breakaway cable system and any needed re-wiring. Reference recall number 21V926 when you call. You can also contact Alamo customer service at 1-800-446-9823.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the defect repair at no cost, and the recall remedy says dealers will inspect and re-wire the breakaway cable system as necessary free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for included trailers.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is that the emergency trailer brake can fail to engage if the trailer becomes untethered from the tow vehicle. That raises crash risk because the breakaway system is meant to help stop a separated trailer. The dealer repair corrects the wiring.
When were owners notified about recall 21V926?
Owner notification letters were mailed January 21, 2022. If you bought the trailer used or never received a letter, the VIN still decides whether recall 21V926 applies. Check your VIN, then call the dealer with the recall number if your trailer is included.
