What's wrong?
The gear shift pedal on the 2021 Honda CT125 is the foot lever the rider uses to change gears. The pedal arm connects to a boss, which is the hub that attaches the pedal assembly to the shift mechanism. Each shift sends force through that welded joint, so the weld has to hold up to repeated foot pressure.
On affected CT125 motorcycles, the pedal arm design puts too much stress at the weld between the arm and the boss. Honda also found that the weld strength was not enough for that stress. With repeated use, the boss can fatigue and the weld can fail. If the pedal breaks off, the rider loses normal gear-shift control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
There is no warning sign before failure. A rider should not count on looseness, noise, or a change in pedal feel before the gear shift pedal separates.
