2019-2020 Nrc Motor Home Recall 21V583: Stove Gas Leak

Recall 21V583 affects 2 2019-2020 Nrc Motor Home vehicles with Dometic 3-burner stoves that can leak gas. Repair will be free once available.

Nrc is recalling 2 2019-2020 Motor Home vehicles built on Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star chassis because certain Dometic 3-burner stoves have a saddle valve bolt that can be overtightened, damaging the o-ring seal and causing a continuous gas leak. A gas leak can increase the risk of a fire, and the dealer repair will be free once Nrc makes it available.

What's wrong?

The Dometic 3-burner LP stove with an oven in the 2019-2020 Nrc Motor Home uses propane fuel for cooking inside the motorhome. A saddle valve and o-ring seal are part of the gas connection at the stove. Their job is to hold the connection tight while letting gas reach the burners and oven only through the intended path.

On affected stoves, the bolt that secures the saddle valve was overtightened. That excess force damages the o-ring seal, which is the small rubber seal that keeps gas inside the connection. Once the seal is damaged, gas escapes from the connection and creates a continuous leak while gas is supplied to the appliance.

There is no warning sign before failure. The recall does not list a stove symptom an owner can use to confirm the defect before gas starts leaking.

Who's affected?

Both model years list the same Dometic 3 burner LP stove with an oven, model R2131-BBPFBO.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific motorhome is included.

What's the safety risk?

A gas leak can increase the risk of a fire. Until the recall repair is completed, avoid using the affected gas equipment and contact the dealer for guidance if you notice gas odor or suspect a leak. Repair will be free at any franchised Nrc dealer once available.

What happens at the repair

The final dealer repair is still under development, so do not treat this as a ready appointment until Nrc opens the remedy. Once available, an Nrc technician will install Dometic's remedy kit on the affected 3-burner stove, including gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and 2 round orange labels. Parts and labor will be free under the recall. NRC has a general reimbursement plan on file for owners who already paid for a related repair before the recall notice. Keep repair paperwork and ask NRC customer service how to submit documentation under that plan.
