What's wrong?
The instrument panel facia assembly in the 2018 Jaguar F-Type is the dashboard structure in front of the passenger seat. It includes the passenger air bag deployment door, the section that opens so the air bag cushion can come out in a crash. In normal operation, that door must move cleanly out of the way while the cushion inflates toward the passenger.
On the recalled vehicle, the deployment door was built with an extra mesh layer. That extra layer changes how the door behaves when the passenger air bag deploys. Testing found the door can hit the laminated windshield with enough force to crack it and separate the glass layers, and that contact can tear the air bag cushion. A torn cushion does not provide the same controlled inflation path.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem is inside the instrument panel, so an owner would not be expected to hear, feel, or see it before an air bag deployment.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific car.
What's the safety risk?
If the passenger air bag tears as it deploys, it provides less controlled protection in a crash and increases injury risk. If your VIN is included, schedule the repair soon and ask the dealer for the earliest available appointment. Repair is free at any franchised Jaguar dealer.
What should I do?

- Bring the recall notice if you have it, and reference recall number 21V500 when you call.
- Avoid using the front passenger seat until the dealer completes the repair.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Jaguar technician replaces the instrument panel facia so it no longer interferes with front passenger air bag deployment. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. Out of pocket repairs already paid are handled through Jaguar's new vehicle warranty program, not through a separate reimbursement program, because the affected vehicle is still under warranty. Ask the service desk how that warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
