What's wrong?

The outside Flame King cooktop on affected 2020-2021 Heartland Trail Runner, Wilderness, North Trail, and Mallard trailers connects to the trailer's LP gas system through a hose and fitting. That line feeds propane to the outside two burner cooktop so the burners receive gas only through the intended connection. The fitting has to stay tight while the cooktop is used and while the trailer moves.

On these trailers, the LP gas lines were not tightened properly during installation of the outside cooktops. A loose fitting lets LP gas escape instead of staying sealed inside the line. Heartland's repair adds a rubberized P-clamp and pan screw so the LP hose stays supported and does not kink or loosen.

Owners can notice the smell of LP gas near the outside cooktop. A hissing sound from the fitting is another warning sign that gas is leaking. If you notice either sign, stop using the cooktop and have the recall repair handled by a Heartland dealer.

Who's affected?

Covers four Heartland trailer lines across the 2020 and 2021 model years, all tied to the same Flame King cooktop and LPG line fittings.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific trailer is included.

What's the safety risk?

A leaking LP gas fitting increases the risk of fire. If you smell LP gas or hear hissing near the fitting, shut off the propane supply, keep ignition sources away, and arrange service before using the system again. Repair is free at any franchised Heartland dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2020-2021 Heartland Trail Runner, Wilderness, North Trail, or Mallard trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Heartland dealer to schedule the free LP gas line inspection, tightening, and propane leak test for the outside cooktop.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Heartland mailed one. If not, reference recall number 21V453 when you call.
  4. Avoid using the outside cooktop or LP gas system until the repair is complete, because a loose line can leak gas and raise fire risk.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Heartland technician inspects the LP gas lines at the outside cooktops, tightens any loose connections, and tests the propane system for leaks. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Heartland has a general reimbursement plan on file for this campaign. If you paid for this same LP gas line repair before the recall notice, bring your repair invoice and proof of payment to the service desk.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 21V453?

Recall 21V453 covers 2,486 2021 Heartland Mallard, Wilderness, and Trail Runner trailers and 2020-2021 North Trail trailers. The LP gas lines for the outside cooktop were not tightened properly, which can cause a gas leak and increase fire risk. Heartland dealers will inspect and tighten the lines for free.

What should I do if my 2020-2021 Heartland North Trail or 2021 Heartland Trail Runner, Wilderness, or Mallard is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific trailer is included in recall 21V453. If it is, contact a Heartland dealer to schedule the LP gas line inspection, tightening, and propane leak test. Reference recall number 21V453 when you call. The repair is free.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Heartland's remedy says dealers will inspect and tighten the LP gas lines, then test the propane system for leaks, free of charge.

What is the safety risk?

The safety risk is a propane gas leak at the outside cooktop. If the LP gas line is loose, leaking propane can increase the risk of a fire. If you smell gas, shut off the propane supply and contact a Heartland dealer before using the cooktop again.
