Recall 21V417 affects 1,050 2021-2022 Volvo Vnl, Vah, Vhd, and Vnr trucks for separating hubcaps. Hubcap removal is free at any franchised Volvo dealer.
Volvo is recalling 1,050 2021-2022 Vnl, Vah, Vhd, and Vnr trucks because the hubcap compression spring can make the hubcap separate. A separated hubcap can become a road hazard and increase crash risk; the Volvo dealer repair will be free once Volvo makes the remedy available.

What's wrong?
The hub cap kit on 2021-2022 Volvo Vnl, Vah, Vhd, and Vnr trucks is a decorative wheel hub cover. It sits over the wheel hub, the center area of the wheel assembly, and is held in place by a compression spring so the cover stays attached while the truck is in service.
On affected trucks, the cover does not have enough pull-off force for this application. In plain terms, the spring and cover design do not hold the hubcap tightly enough. Road vibration and normal wheel movement can let the compression spring push or work the hubcap loose until it separates from the wheel.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver will not get a dashboard light, sound, or handling change that confirms the cover is about to come off.
Who's affected?
Covers four Volvo truck lines from the 2021 and 2022 model years, all tied to decorative wheel hub covers.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific truck.
What's the safety risk?
A hubcap that separates from the truck can land in traffic and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. If your VIN is included, schedule service promptly and avoid using the truck with loose or missing wheel trim until the dealer gives guidance. Repair will be free at any franchised Volvo dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2022 Volvo Vnl, Vah, Vhd, or Vnr is included in this recall.
- Watch for Volvo's owner letter, mailed July 12, 2021, or call Volvo customer service if you did not receive it.
- Contact a franchised Volvo dealer to ask when the free hubcap removal is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 21V417 when you call the dealer or Volvo customer service.
- Avoid driving with a loose or separated hubcap, since a separated hubcap creates a road hazard.
What happens at the repair
Once Volvo opens the dealer repair, a Volvo technician will remove the affected hubcap so the compression spring cannot let it separate from the wheel. The final dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under the recall. If you already paid out of pocket for a related hubcap repair, Volvo has a general reimbursement plan on file. Bring repair documentation to the service desk and ask how to submit it under that plan.
