What's wrong?
The tie rod is part of the steering linkage on affected 2021-2022 Fccc vehicles, including Xb Chassis, S2, Mt Chassis, S2RV, Xc Chassis, and other models in this recall. It connects the steering system to the front wheels so both wheels respond together when the driver turns the steering wheel. The tie rod clamp nut holds that connection tight.
On these vehicles, the lock nuts supplied for the tie rod clamps were over-crimped. That over-crimping can damage the threads during installation, a condition called thread galling. The clamp can look tightened to the required assembly torque while still sitting loose. A loose clamp lets the tie rod end move, and the tie rod end can break or detach.
The warning sign listed for this recall is decreased steering response. If the steering feels less direct, slower to respond, or loose compared with normal, treat that as a steering warning sign and have the vehicle checked.

What's the safety risk?
Detached or broken tie rod ends can reduce steering response or result in steering loss, increasing the risk of a crash. If the steering feels delayed, loose, or harder to control, stop using the vehicle and contact a dealer for repair scheduling. Repair is free at any franchised Fccc dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2022 Fccc Xb Chassis, S2, Mt Chassis, 5700, S2RV, 122SD, Cascadia, Xc Chassis, 4900, 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, or 4700 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Fccc dealer to schedule the free tie rod clamp bolt and nut replacement that secures the loose tie rod ends.
- Bring the recall notice if Daimler Trucks North America mailed one. If not, reference recall number 21V369 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and stop driving if the steering feels loose before your appointment.
- Call Fccc customer service at 1-800-547-0712 with questions about the repair or scheduling.
