What's wrong?
The rear brake hose on 2014-2021 Ducati Monster 1200 and Monster 821 motorcycles carries brake fluid from the rear brake master cylinder to the ABS control unit. The master cylinder creates brake pressure when you press the rear brake pedal, and the ABS unit helps manage wheel lockup during hard braking. That hose has to hold pressure while sitting close to engine and exhaust heat.
On affected motorcycles, the hose material has lower resistance to temperature, and part of the hose sits in hot airflow from the exhaust manifold. Long idle periods on the side stand or rear stand add heat in that area. Over time, the flexible section can be heat damaged, which can lead to hose failure and loss of brake fluid.
You can look for visible damage on the rear brake hoses during the pre-ride check. You can also feel reduced rear brake performance before a ride. If the damage is not found, the hose can fail suddenly and without warning.
