What's wrong?
The ReAX steering column on 2021-2022 Spartan K1, K2, K3, and K4 motorhome chassis connects the steering wheel to the steering gear below it. Inside that column, the steering output shaft transfers the driver's turning input to the steering input shaft. The column also lets the steering wheel telescope, which means it moves in and out to fit the driver.
On affected chassis, the steering output shaft inside the column is too short for the needed engagement. When the steering wheel is fully telescoped, the output shaft can pull away from the input shaft instead of staying locked together. If those shafts separate, the steering wheel no longer sends turning force through the steering system, and the driver can lose steering control.
There is no warning sign before failure. The shafts can separate without noise, warning lights, or a change in steering feel before the connection lets go.

What's the safety risk?
If the steering output shaft disengages, the driver loses steering control and crash risk rises. The shafts can separate without warning, so schedule the inspection soon instead of waiting for a symptom. Repair is free at any franchised Spartan dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Spartan technician inspects the steering column on the affected K1, K2, K3, and K4 chassis. If the steering column fails inspection, the technician replaces it. The recall repair is available now, and parts and labor are free. Shyft Group has a general reimbursement plan on file. If you already paid for a related steering column repair before the recall work, ask the service desk how to submit documentation under that plan.
