What's wrong?
The passenger air bag module in the 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008 INFINITI FX35 and FX45 sits in front of the passenger and inflates during a crash. Its cushion is folded inside the module so inflator gas opens the bag in a controlled path. On these vehicles, the problem applies only to SUVs that previously received a replacement passenger air bag assembly under recall 20V-008.
The replacement cushion was folded too narrowly after a supplier process change. That narrower fold restricted the path for inflator gas during deployment. Pressure inside the cushion rose higher than intended, leaving the cushion at risk of tearing as the air bag opens.
There is no warning sign before failure. The air bag light does not identify this folding problem, and the defect would show up only when the passenger air bag deploys.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 21V139?
Recall 21V139 covers 26,158 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008 INFINITI FX35 and FX45 vehicles that previously received a replacement front passenger air bag assembly under recall 20V-008. The air bag cushion was folded incorrectly and can tear during deployment. INFINITI dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module for free.
What should I do if my 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008 INFINITI FX35 or FX45 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 21V139. If it is, call an INFINITI dealer and ask for recall R20C2, the front passenger air bag module replacement. You can also contact INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and INFINITI's remedy says dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module free of charge. Parts and labor are covered at any franchised INFINITI dealer.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is reduced passenger air bag protection in a crash. If the incorrectly folded cushion tears during deployment, the air bag can perform worse than intended and increase the risk of injury. Confirm your VIN, then have an INFINITI dealer complete the free module replacement.
What if I bought my INFINITI FX35 or FX45 used?
The free repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the vehicle, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific FX35 or FX45 is included, then reference recall 21V139 and INFINITI recall number R20C2 when you contact the dealer.
