Recall 21V131 covers 39,547 2015-2018 Porsche Macan vehicles for a front passenger seat sensor defect. Repair is free at any franchised Porsche dealer.
Porsche is recalling 39,547 2015-2018 Macan S, Macan Turbo, Macan, and Macan GTS vehicles because the front passenger seat occupancy sensor mat can degrade and stop detecting a passenger. If that happens, the passenger air bag will not deploy in a crash, increasing injury risk, and the Porsche dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The BodySense Generation 2 sensor mat sits inside the front passenger seat cushion in affected 2015-2018 Porsche Macan models. Its job is to tell the air bag system whether someone is sitting in the front passenger seat, so the system can classify the occupant and manage passenger air bag status.
On these vehicles, the conductive fabric inside the sensor mat can fracture prematurely because the material lacks sufficient strength. Once that fabric cracks, the mat fails to read the front passenger seat correctly. The passenger air bag detection system then stops getting reliable seat occupancy information.
The warning sign is an illuminated "Airbag warning lamp" or "Passenger Airbag OFF" lamp. If either light appears when someone is in the front passenger seat, describe it to a Porsche dealer as a front passenger occupancy sensor mat concern.
Who's affected?
Spans four Macan variants across 2015-2018, all tied to front passenger occupant classification sensing for the front air bag.

The year, model, and trim narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the front passenger is not detected, the passenger air bag will not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The Airbag warning lamp or Passenger Airbag OFF lamp alerts occupants to the problem. Schedule service soon if either lamp appears. Repair will be free at any franchised Porsche dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2015-2018 Porsche Macan, Macan S, Macan Turbo, or Macan GTS is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Porsche dealer and ask whether the free front passenger sensor mat and seat cushion replacement is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 21V131 when you call, and bring the owner letter if Porsche mailed one to you.
- Avoid using the front passenger seat until the repair is complete, because the air bag will not deploy in a crash if the seat sensor fails to detect a passenger.
- Call Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 with questions, and reference Porsche recall AMA2.
What happens at the repair
Porsche's remedy calls for a Porsche technician to replace the front passenger seat occupancy sensor mat and the seat cushion. The dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under the recall. If you paid for this same remedy before the recall notification, Porsche's reimbursement plan on file covers eligible documented expenses. Keep your repair order and payment records, and contact Porsche customer service or the dealer service desk to start the reimbursement review.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 21V131?
Recall 21V131 covers 39,547 2015-2018 Porsche Macan-family vehicles, including Macan S, Macan Turbo, Macan, and Macan GTS models. The front passenger seat occupancy sensor mat can degrade and fail to detect a passenger, so Porsche dealers replace the sensor mat and seat cushion for free.
What should I do if my 2015-2018 Porsche Macan is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 21V131. If it is, contact a franchised Porsche dealer to schedule replacement of the front passenger sensor mat and seat cushion. Reference recall number 21V131 or Porsche recall AMA2 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects at no cost, and Porsche dealers will replace the affected front passenger seat sensor mat and seat cushion free of charge.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is that the front passenger air bag will not deploy in a crash if the seat sensor fails to detect a passenger. That increases injury risk for the person in the front passenger seat. The dealer repair addresses the failed sensor mat.
What if I bought my Porsche Macan used?
The free recall repair still applies. Federal recall law follows the vehicle, not the first owner. If Porsche did not mail you the October 25, 2021 owner letter, check your VIN and give the dealer recall number 21V131 or Porsche recall AMA2.
