Recall 21V069 affects 5 2021 Newmar Kountry Star and Ventana motorhomes for an improperly tightened brake caliper bolt. Repair is free at a franchised Newmar dealer.
Newmar is recalling 5 of its 2021 Kountry Star and Ventana motorhomes under recall 21V069 because one of the six brake caliper mounting bolts on the driver-side steer axle was not tightened correctly. The loose bolt can reduce brake effectiveness and raise the risk of a crash, and Newmar dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts free of charge.

What's wrong?
The brake caliper on the driver-side steer axle is the clamp that squeezes the brake pads against the rotor when you press the pedal. Six bolts hold that caliper to the anchor plate on the front axle. Together those bolts create the clamping force that lets a heavy motorhome slow down and stop in a controlled distance.
On affected 2021 Kountry Star and Ventana motorhomes built on a Freightliner chassis, one of the six caliper-mounting bolts was not tightened to the correct torque at the factory. An under-torqued bolt can let the surrounding bolts work loose over time. As clamping force drops, the caliper shifts under braking and the brakes lose effectiveness. Reduced braking on a vehicle this size lengthens stopping distance and raises the risk of a crash.
There is no warning sign before failure. The defect is internal to the caliper mounting and is not something an owner can see or feel from the driver's seat.
Who's affected?
Covers two Newmar motorhome lines (Kountry Star and Ventana) in the 2021 model year, both built with the same front brake caliper.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific motorhome is included in this recall.
What's the safety risk?
A loose caliper bolt can cause additional bolts to back out, weakening the clamp between the brake caliper and anchor plate. Reduced brake effectiveness lengthens stopping distance and raises the risk of a crash. Treat any unusual brake feel, noise, or pull as a reason to stop driving and call the dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Newmar dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021 Newmar Kountry Star or Ventana motorhome is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Newmar dealer to schedule the brake-caliper bolt inspection that addresses the loose driver-side steer-axle caliper mounting bolt.
- Bring the recall notice if Newmar has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 21V069 when you call.
- Call Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 with questions about the repair or your notification status.
- Drive cautiously until the inspection is complete. Avoid hard braking and leave extra following distance.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Newmar technician inspects the six brake caliper mounting bolts on the driver side steer axle and tightens or replaces any that were not torqued correctly. Parts and labor are free under the recall. Daimler Trucks North America is coordinating the repair on Newmar's behalf, so owner notifications and service scheduling run through that channel. Newmar has a general reimbursement plan on file for owners who already paid out of pocket for related repairs before the recall notice. Bring your receipts and repair documentation to the service desk when you arrive.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 21V069?
Recall 21V069 covers 5 2021 Newmar Kountry Star and Ventana motorhomes with a brake caliper mounting bolt on the driver-side steer axle that was not tightened correctly. The loose bolt can reduce braking effectiveness. Newmar dealers will inspect and repair the brake caliper bolts free of charge.
What should I do if my 2021 Newmar Kountry Star or Ventana is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific motorhome is included in recall 21V069. If it is, contact a Newmar service center to schedule the brake caliper bolt inspection and repair. Reference recall number 21V069 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to perform the recall repair at no cost. Daimler Trucks North America is coordinating the work on behalf of Newmar, and dealers will inspect and repair the brake caliper bolts free of charge regardless of where the motorhome was originally purchased.
What is the safety risk?
An incorrectly tightened brake caliper mounting bolt on the driver-side steer axle can loosen the other caliper bolts. Without proper clamping force between the caliper and the brake anchor plate, brake effectiveness drops and stopping distances grow, which increases the risk of a crash. The inspection confirms whether any bolts need to be retorqued or replaced.
How will I be notified about this recall?
